Inferencing

To inference you need to use the clues in the text to discover what is not directly stated. Remember that when you infer, or make an inference, you are drawing a conclusion based on the information that you know.

Inferencing is closely related to predicting. Predicting is what someone thinks will happen next in a text. Inferencing is a conclusion based on facts and evidence.

For Example:

If you are walking down the street and your friend pulls out her phone, looks at it, and begins to cry. You can infer that she just received bad news on her phone because she is crying(evidence). You can predict (guess) she will go home and be sad for the rest of the night.

Please watch this short video to receive some more information on how to use inferencing when reading a text.
